Itinerary 

Har ki Dun Trek Your first day involves a 10-hour trip from Dehradun to Sankri. You need to be at Prince Chowk in Dehradun around 6:00 a.m. To get there on time, book a night bus or train from Delhi to Dehradun ISBT. Sankri sits 220 km from Dehradun taking about 10 hours to reach. You’ll climb 1950 m at the highest point. Our route takes us through Mussoorie known as the “Queen of the Hills,” and past the beautiful Kempty Falls.

We then enter Uttarkashi district going through Naugaon, Purola, Mori, and Netwar before reaching Sankri village, our first stop on the trek.The route is long and attractive, with pine trees growing on both sides of a road that runs parallel to the Tonnes River. After Mussoorie, the terrain changes dramatically; steep gorges are replaced by pine trees, which carry the fresh aroma of pinewood in the air. We’ll stop at an inn along the way at a convenient time for lunch.

When you get at Purola, you should complete any critical calls and internet usage because the connection will become hazy after that. The last road to Sankri is around 20 km long and beautiful in every way. We will cross the Govind National Park checkpoint shortly before reaching Sankri, where the drive will conclude at 6 p.m.

On the second day, of Har ki Dun Trek we begin the journey via Sankri towards Taluka at 7 a.m. It is roughly one hour away from Sankri, and the quick journey will take you through more and more expanding trees and streams cutting in the way over stones, introducing us to the landscape of our walk up close.

When trekkers arrive in Taluka, another community of the same lineage located on this journey, they will be invited to come together for snacks before beginning their walk. Taluka is a tiny Himalayan the village with a few cement homes. The first slip is a fall to the banks of the nice the quantity River, and after keeping the river to the right, the track continues a flat walk through hardwood forests until reaching the initial concrete crossing.

Moving forward, crop farms of potato, rice and corn will fall along the path, providing all of the section of a ranch-house the environment. The lush vegetation and step agriculture of the Himalayan towns is going to amaze you. Pauni Garaat, a beautiful meadow on the banks of Supin at its best, came midway in the afternoon as the sun began to set—welcome to the first campsite!

Pauni Garaat to Kalkattiyadhar is an 8 km journey that takes 6 hours and begins at 6 a.m. after breakfast. The road travels through dense forests of towering evergreens until it reaches the settlement of Seema. Seema village is a collection of brick buildings and a lush forest ministry lodging facility situated on the banks of the Supin River. Osla settlement is on the other side of the river. The Seema Bridge is a hanging bridge that spans the Supin River, with huge snow-clad mountains in the background, making it a perfect location for taking breathtaking photographs.

From Osla, the route gets rather difficult, and there are fantastic vistas to catch sight of the Dhauladhar Range in front of you. Snaky routes to Borasu Pass and Baspa Valley also lead from here. The steep route descends down to a flat green stretch known as Kalkattiyadhar. This is the campground on day two. Kalkattiyadhar is a picturesque open meadow with views of notable peaks such as Bugyal Devsu and Mt. Black Peak. The Ruinsara Range and the Kedarkantha Summit will be visible to your left. Take in the views, recuperate, and prepare for the peak the next day.

Today will begin earlier than previous days because it is also the longest day of walking. We start the journey soon after breakfast. However, as captivating as the sights have been up until this point, prepare to be surprised by something new. The route will go into the glacier basin, which has moraines and alpine meadows. Tall pine trees will meet you at each step.

The trail begins with a rise above the junction of the Supin River and the River from the Ruinsara Valley. You will begin to see amazing mountain vistas from here on out. The route ascends steeply and moderately till it reaches the  Har ki dun Trek. As you climb higher, you may see snow patches and ice waterfalls.

From this point on, the walk is a return route down. Today we will retrace our travels from Osla village to Pauni Garaat. Here’s another chance to enjoy those moments with the quiet peasants. Say farewell to them and the beautiful scenery surrounding you. Wake up early to see the stunning dawn at the Kalkattiyadhar campground. Morning temperatures are often lower, and in the winter, they are below zero.

Also, while the walk is not very difficult or time-consuming today, you may visit the settlement of Osla. Pay a visit to the Someshwar temple, which is devoted to Lord Shiva and features some magnificent detail carvings on its walls. Stay the night at the Pauni Garaat campground.

On day six of Har Ki Dun Trek is the day when you say goodbye to the charming village of Seema and walk into the return route towards Sankari. This trek offers the mix trekking and drive into the views of valleys, mountains so that you can conserve the last beauty of the Himalayas. After night stay in Seema, you will set the trek towards Taluka. The trek from Seema to Taluka hardly takes 4 to 5 hours, and after some time, it reveals familiar and beautiful landscape that you have grown to like on your trek experience.

After reaching Taluka, you have some time to take some rest and spend some peaceful moments over there. From Taluka to will do trek of 1 hour to reach Sankari. On your way to back Sankari, again you will get the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the village. Now you will take a relaxing stay at your guesthouse or a camp and definitely enjoy the nature beauty and the open sky with lost of starts for the last time while Har Ki Dun Trek. 

Today, we said goodbye to the mountains with many memories in our thoughts. The tour ends with a 10-hour drive from Sankri to Dehradun. Breakfast and lunch will be on their route. The arrival time at Dehradun station will be 6 p.m., which is appropriate for an overnight trip to Delhi. To be on the safe side, plan your travel from Dehradun Bus Stand by 9 p.m. This will assist account for any delays.

By Air:

Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport to Dehradun. Scheduled flights to Dehradun depart from major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Chennai. Take a trip to Dehradun airport (Jolly Grant Airport), and from there to Prince Chowk in Dehradun. The journey is 30 km and will take approximately one hour (if travelling by plane, arrive one day beforehand).

By Road:

Dehradun is connected to several locations in North India via an in good condition highway system. You may use the bus or book a private vehicle or taxi from nearby cities.

Catch a bus to Dehradun ISBT from Delhi Kashmiri Gate ISBT or any city of your preference. After arriving in Dehradun, get a local bus to the gathering spot (Prince Chowk).

By Train-

Dehradun Junction, which is located in the heart of Dehradun City, is the nearest railway station to the trek’s starting point. Take an overnight train from Delhi or any other city of your preference to Dehradun Railway Station. The picking up place (Prince Chowk) is approximately one hundred meters from the Dehradun railway station.

The minimum age requirement for most hikes is typically around 12 to 14 years old, depending on the difficulty of the trail. However, for more challenging treks, the recommended minimum age 12 to 65 years. Always check the specific guidelines for the hike you’re interested in.

The nearest bus stand to Sankri is located in Rishikesh, which is approximately 200 kilometers away. From Rishikesh, you can take a bus or hire a taxi to reach Sankri, the base for many popular treks like the Kedarkantha and Har Ki Dun treks. The journey from Rishikesh to Sankri usually takes around 8 to 10 hours, depending on road conditions.

The best time to visit the Har Ki Dun trek is between July and September. During this period, the weather is pleasant, and the valley is lush with greenery, making it ideal for trekking. The trails are vibrant with blooming flowers, and the overall scenery is breathtaking. However, it’s important to note that this time frame can also bring occasional rain, so be prepared for wet conditions.

The Har Ki Dun trek typically requires 6 to 7 days to complete. This duration includes the time needed for acclimatization, trekking to the summit, and returning to the base.
